What is Low-Level Laser Therapy?
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a safe, effective, and affordable treatment used to grow back your own natural hair by enhancing cellular function. LLLT is non-invasive, nor does it involve the use of chemicals or medications.
LLLT at Boston Hair Regrow uses a 650nm laser to stimulate hair cells. This stimulation works in three primary phases:
1. It defends your hair by breaking up DHT (a hormone that thins hair and inhibits hair production) at the surface of the skin.
2. It promotes cell division. Having activated more hair cells means more chances for hair to grow.
3. It makes your hair healthier. The laser increases blood flow, removes cellular waste, and ushers in the nutrients hair needs to thrive.
How do I achieve the best results?
We see the best results in individuals who start laser therapy as soon as they begin noticing thinning hair or hair loss. In addition to LLLT, we also recommended our clients to consider that proper nutrition and exercise are important in maintaining a healthy body and healthy hair.
What is the treatment like?
You sit under the laser unit, which is shaped like large hair dryer, for approximately 30 minutes. There is no sound or odor, and the experience is painless. Many clients read, watch TV, or relax during their therapy. The frequency and the number of treatments vary depending on the extent of your hair loss, and are discussed during your consultation appointment.
Will it work for me?
Laser therapy is used successfully by many men and women. Because there are several contributing factors to hair loss, including heredity, results may vary. Our clients have been very satisfied with their results. Read what they’ve been saying about us here.
Can I use laser therapy in combination with other treatments?
Yes, LLLT can be used by people who have undergone hair transplant surgery and by people who use chemical or medicated solutions. Laser therapy can be used to compliment alternative treatments and minimize shedding of transplanted hair.
However, if laser therapy is started at an early stage of hair loss, it may be the only treatment needed.
Have there been any research or studies on LLLT?
Yes, here are just three of hundreds of studies demonstrating that LLLT can be an effective method of treating hair loss:
1. “LLLT may be a promising treatment option for patients who do not respond to either finasteride or minoxidil, and who do not want to undergo hair transplantation.”
2. “After 6 weeks of […] treatment, hair regrowth was observed in all the mice in group I (laser-treated) but none in group II (sham-treated). On histology, increased number of anagen hair follicles was observed in laser-treated mice.”
3. “Of the 110 patients who completed the study, subjects in the [LLLT] treatment group exhibited a significantly greater increase in mean terminal hair density than subjects in the sham device group (p < 0.0001). Consistent with this evidence for primary effectiveness, significant improvements in overall hair regrowth were demonstrated in terms of patients’ subjective assessment (p < 0.015) at 26 weeks over baseline.”
